Database update october 2020
The October update includes a wide variety of vehicles in addition to the current Crash Recovery System offering.
Passenger cars
It has now become clear from the market developments that for passenger cars, several car manufacturers are switching to a combination of a petrol engine, an electric motor and a battery pack that you can charge via a plug. Because this type of drive, the PHEV (plug-in hybrid), is seen by many manufacturers as the magic tool for reducing the total CO2 emissions of the fleet. And that is very important given the European CO2 targets that are imposed on them, in order to avoid sky-high fines. For each gram of CO2 above the target – which is set individually for each manufacturer – the manufacturer pays a fine per registered vehicle in the European Union.
For the car database, the majority of the supplement consists of hybrid vehicles and we have added the following car models: Jeep Renegade PHEV, Jeep Compass PHEV, Renault Captur Hybrid, Renault Clio HEV and the Kia Sorento Hybrid. In addition, the Kia Ceed, Rio and Stonic have also been added, which are all “mild hybrids”. It uses a smart starter generator and a 48V battery pack. The special starter motor not only ensures a quick and smooth start, but is also able to absorb braking energy and store it in a small battery pack of 0.46 kWh. This energy is used during acceleration to somewhat simplify the combustion engine’s task, which should benefit consumption and reduce the emission of harmful substances. The fact that the motor switches off at 30 km/h during braking thanks to the electric assistance also contributes to this.
Furthermore, the database has been expanded with two fully electrically powered passenger cars, namely the Mazda MX-30 and the Lexus UX 300e. Finally, of course, models with a conventional powertrain have also been added, and those are the Kia Sorento and the Toyota Yaris GR.
Trucks
The truck database has been expanded with the Iveco S-Way (CNG and LNG), the MAN TGM ‘Electric Emoss’ (various versions) and the Mercedes-Benz Antos (Ginaf). A special addition is the Mercedes-Benz eActros, the first fully electrically powered truck from Mercedes-Benz. Two electric motors at the wheel hubs of the rear axle provide the drive, each with a capacity of 126 kW (171 hp) and 485 Nm of maximum torque. Lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 240 kWh provide the eActros with the necessary energy. Depending on the available charging power, the batteries can be charged within two hours (at 150 kW). The range is 200 km with a fully charged battery.
As part of the eActros ‘Innovation Fleet’, these trucks are tested by twenty companies in various distribution sectors and in their own daily practice. The testing of this ‘Innovation fleet’ consists of two phases, each with ten companies. Feedback from these practical tests is directly included in the further development of the eActros. The goal is to enable clean and quiet distribution in urban areas with trucks from 2021.
Buses
The additions to the bus database are the MAN Lions City (both conventional and hybrid) in 12 and 18 meter versions, the Van Hool A309 Hybrid, the Mercedes-Benz e-citaro (both conventional and pantograph), the VDL SLFA-180 Electric and the VDL SLE-120 Hybrid.
Special vehicles
The Trens Solar Train is included in the special vehicle database. That is an electrically powered ‘road train’. In addition, the Goupil G6, an electrically powered commercial vehicle, and the RAVO 5 eSeries have been added. The latter is a fully electrically powered, and therefore 100% emission-free sweeper about which we posted an article on our news page.
Make sure you are up-to-date and install this update via the update management in the settings of your Crash Recovery System.
